But actress Liv Tyler has claimed that family life “possibly will not flourish” if people focus all their attention on their career.

The 37-year-old star revealed that ever since her nine-year-old son Milo was born, she “can’t imagine” being away from home for too long.

Ms Tyler is best known for her film roles including The Lord of the Rings triology, Empire Records and The Incredible Hulk, but this year she is starring in a television series, The Leftovers.

She said: “Ever since Milo was born, I haven’t really been making many movies because I just can’t imagine being away from home for long periods of time.”

Ms Tyler, who is the daughter of Aerosmith’s singer Steven Tyler, added: “From a very young age I had this idea that if you are very successful in your career and you’re giving all of your attention to that, then your family life ... possibly will not flourish as it might.”

The star described her TV role as “a steady job” which “feels like a luxury”.

Despite admitting there is “something incredibly freeing” about being 25 and flying to New Zealand, she now has a “different kind of balance”.

“It’s the more grown-up version of being an actress,” Ms Tyler added.
