Hull City’s Egyptian winger Ahmed Elmohamady sparked a panic-stricken search when the wallet containing his travel visa disappeared the day before he was due to fly.

The wallet found itself safely back into his hands after being handed in 50 miles away to Scarborough Police in North Yorkshire, before Mr Elmohamady hired the taxi to transport it home.

An unnamed source said how Elmohamady negotiated a £50 fare for the taxi. The source said: “It was a real race against time. He was obviously desperate to get it back in time for his flight.”

North Yorkshire Police confirmed the wallet was handed in and contained no cash.
