Jobs fears grow at bed maker
FEARS have been raised over the future of more than 1,000 jobs with confirmation that bed maker Silentnight had entered into a formal CVA arrangement with its creditors.
But the group, which employs 250 people at its Batley production centre out of more than 1,250 nationally, remains “profitable”, chief executive Neal Mernock insisted last night.
He blamed the move on the withdrawal of facilities by its bank which had left it with “unserviceable historic debt” on top of a growing pension deficit, adding he was confident the firm could still be successful and profitable.
