Kate may put her stunning wedding dress on display

THE wedding dress worn by Kate Middleton is set to go on display, with a range of mass-produced copies expected to begin hitting stores.

Clarence House last night confirmed plans are being drawn up to publicly display the dress, which won worldwide praise for its intricate decorations.

A spokeswoman said: “The Duchess of Cambridge is considering a number of options to give members of the public the opportunity to see close up the skilled British craftsmanship that went into the making of her wedding dress by Sarah Burton and her team as well as the Royal School of Needlework.”

It has yet to be determined when or where it might be exhibited. A number of gowns worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, went on display at Kensington Palace.

The new Duchess of Cambridge’s dress was designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen and received a rapturous reception, having been one of the best-kept secret in fashion history.

Even the team of embroiderers at Hampton Court Palace working on the gown did not know the identity of the designer until shortly before the public announcement.

Meanwhile, the newlyweds were reported to have enjoyed a quiet weekend in a mystery location in the UK and were said to be “buzzing with happiness” after the wedding. However the couple decided to postpone their honeymoon, with William set to return in the next few days to his job as a search and rescue helicopter pilot.

Clarence House denied reports of security concerns over the trip, with the pair expected to fly out shortly after William’s duties are carried out. The venue of the holiday is the subject of hot speculation with bookmakers taking bets on the destination. Kenya and the Caribbean are said to be among those in contention.
