At last, the good news: It’s going to stay warm into Easter

After one of the coldest winters on record Yorkshire is at last enjoying the benefits of the sun – with experts predicting higher temperatures and glorious sunshine for much of the week ahead.

The Stray in Harrogate was the scene of a magnificent display of blossom and daffodils during warm spring weather yesterday, with people flocking to the scenic park to soak up the sunshine.

Forecasters are predicting the hot temperatures will continue into the Easter weekend, with the mercury predicted to climb as high as 22C by Thursday.

However the good news was tempered with caution, with one Met Office official advising the high temperatures may trigger an isolated heavy shower in and around Yorkshire.

But despite the potential for the odd downpour, officials at the Met Office forecast said the spell of dry, warm weather will last up until the end of the month.

And dry weather on April 29, the day of the Royal Wedding, is “most likely”.

The sunshine and warm weather is, however, expected to mean increased traffic on the region’s roads, highways officials have already warned.

Kevin Andrews, RAC Patrol Ambassador of the Year, said: “If you’re going for a day out there’s nothing worse than wasting time.

“Allow plenty of time for your journey, particularly if you’re heading for a popular resort or travelling at peak times.”
