Memorial to tsunami dead unveiled

A YOUNG boy leaves a tribute beside a memorial for the 155 British victims of the 2004 Indian ocean Tsunami, at the Natural History Museum in central London yesterday.

Earlier the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall laid a wreath at the opening of a memorial.

The names of the Britons killed in the disaster are engraved on the floor beneath the 115-tonne granite monolith that stands in the grounds of the museum in South Kensington. The horrifying events of Boxing Day, 2004, remain etched on the memories of people around the world. From Indonesia in the east to Somalia, the tsunami was complete in its destruction. More than 225,000 fell victim to the waves.

Hundreds of bereaved friends and family members gathered at the opening of the memorial.
