Milkshake recalled in health scare

Chilled foods company Dairy Crest has recalled a batch of milkshakes because of a health scare.

The firm advised shoppers who bought 500ml bottles of its strawberry Frijj milkshake with a use-by date of April 5 to not drink the product but to contact it for a refund.

The drinks may contain “a low level of listeria monocytogenes” – bacteria that cause listeriosis, which were detected in a monitoring sample by the company.

Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches and vomiting.

Toby Brinsmead, managing director of Dairy Crest’s liquids business, said: “We are very sorry to inconvenience Frijj drinkers who have bought this product.”

The company said no other Frijj products were affected by the problem.
