More support demanded for injured British troops

More than half of Britons think not enough support is given to injured troops when they return home from Afghanistan, a survey has found.

Just over one in five people (21 per cent) feel that provision for wounded servicemen and women in the UK is adequate.

By contrast, 34 per cent of those polled said assistance for those injured in the war-torn country was “not really” enough and 18 per cent said it was “not at all” sufficient.

The survey was carried out for Nissan, which is sponsoring a fundraising expedition to Morocco led by four British paratroopers wounded in Afghanistan.

The soldiers, two of whom lost a leg after being hit by Taliban improvised explosive devices, are hoping to raise £40,000 for the Afghanistan Trust, which supports injured Parachute Regiment soldiers and the families of those who have been killed.

The expedition leaves on April 18, with teams setting off from the Parachute Regiment’s barracks in Colchester and from Nissan’s Hertfordshire headquarters.
