Old Boys on a path worth following

People who like the idea of taking part in Trailtrekker but think it will be too much hard work and effort would do well to look at the outstanding example of Barnsley Old Boys.

The team, made up of senior staff at Barnsley Council were returning for their second year at Trailtrekker this year, having successfully completing the walking challenge last year as well.

Despite their demanding jobs and having taken on the challenge 12 months previously, the team were back for more in 2011.

Steve Jagger, alongside his team-mates Steve Houghton, Stephen Pick and Tom Stanton, made it round the course in little over 24 hours and proudly accepted their medals at the finishing point after being clapped over the line by a crowd of Oxfam workers and their support crews.

“It was very hard, much harder than the first time we did it,” he said.

“We had some pretty fierce wind so that definitely made it much tougher. But we enjoyed it – at least we can still walk now, which is the main thing.

“I would have to say the night section was the hardest. Will we back next year? We’ll see.

“We know each other all through work and enjoy walking together. Oxfam is a charity that we support so we’re happy to do it.”

The team had a large group of family and friends who were quick to embrace and congratulate them upon crossing the line, with all of them telling the team how proud they were of them.
