£14,000 boost for charity after Yorkshire’s yellow celebration

The Wear it Yellow Day fundraiser, organised by The Yorkshire Post, saw over 50 organisations across the county pledge to spend a day embracing the Tour de France’s famous yellow jersey in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

A wide range of fundraisers took part, including Leeds Bradford Airport which hosted a 3km “Tour de Runway” race.

Around 500 pupils at Thornhill Community Academy, where Bafta-winning TV programme Educating Yorkshire was filmed, also got involved as the region geared up for the Grand Départ.

Tour-tinged Wear it Yellow Day celebrations of the world’s greatest cycle race even went global, with Hewlett Construction turning both its Leeds head office and its office in Oman yellow for the day.

The Yorkshire Post managing editor Nicola Furbisher said: “Yorkshire truly embraced the Tour de France as only God’s Own Country can, and that enthusiasm was captured during Wear it Yellow Day.

“The figure we have raised continues to grow so thank you to all who took part and donated.”
