Robber seen pistol-whipping man of 62 in shocking CCTV footage

Police have released shocking CCTV footage which shows a 62-year-old man being pistol-whipped by a masked robber.

Two raiders targeted the victim after he had parked his car on his drive in Oldham, Greater Manchester.

The two men, who were driving a stolen Seat Altea, sped up to the house before getting out and launching the attack.

The man was punched and kicked before one of the men pulled out a gun and hit him across the head with it while he was being held by the other robber.

They stole the keys to the man’s Range Rover but then got back into the Seat before driving off.

The Range Rover was not taken.

The Seat was later found burnt out Droylsden.

Detective Constable Mike Hayman, from Oldham CID, said: “As the footage shows, this was a violent attack. We do not know whether the gun was real or an imitation but the fact they used it to beat him around the head, causing deep cuts to his head, shows what type of people they are.

“I would ask anyone who may recognise the offenders in the footage or may have seen the actual attack to get in touch with police. Also, if you saw two men abandoning the Seat and setting it on fire, we are keen to hear from you.”

Both men wore dark clothing and balaclavas.

One of the attackers was of muscular build, police said.

The attack happened just before 7pm on Friday, April 20. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 8951 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
