Rural firms’ big chance to cash in on Hockey show

RURAL businesses in East Yorkshire were told to expect a surge in trade ahead of a new exhibition by renowned artist David Hockney which showcases the area.

The David Hockney RA: A Bigger Picture exhibition will feature landscapes from the Yorkshire Wolds and will run at the Royal Academy of Arts from January 21.

Bosses at the Country Land and Business Association say tourism within the East Yorkshire area is likely to benefit, with Hockney fans set to visit places that inspired the Bradford-born artist. Garrowby Hill and Sledmere are among those depicted in the exhibition.

The association’s Dorothy Fairburn said businesses in featured areas would be “well advised to make sure they are prepared for a surge of interest this summer”.
