Sex offender is deported to Pakistan

A Pakistani national convicted of child sex offences in the UK has been deported, the Home Office said yesterday.

Zulfqar Hussain, 50, was jailed in August 2007 after admitting sexual activity with a minor, detaining a child without lawful authority and possession of drugs with intent to supply.

He was sentenced to five years and eight months by a judge at Preston Crown Court and served with a deportation order in December 2009. He was also given a sexual offences prevention order for life.

Hussain, who moved to the UK in the early 1990s, had tried to fight the deportation order on human rights ground, claiming he should be allowed to stay in the UK with his wife and three children. He failed and was deported to Pakistan by the UK Border Agency.

Immigration minister Damian Green said: “We will not accept foreign nationals like Zulfqar Hussain breaking our laws. Those who commit serious offences should be removed at the earliest possible opportunity.

“We will do all we can to protect the public from those who abuse their right to be here.”

Hussain married his wife, a British citizen, in February 1990 and was granted leave to remain in the UK in September 1994. A year later he was given indefinite leave to remain. He lived in Blackburn.

A Home Office spokeswoman said Hussain appealed against the deportation a number of times but his bid to stay was dismissed in January.
