Speedy response to recommendations pledged

Metropolitan Police assistant commissioner Chris Allison said the force would respond to the coroner’s recommendations “quickly”.

Speaking after the hearing’s conclusion, he paid tribute to the victims and hundreds who were injured in the devastating attacks on the capital. “Our thoughts are with everyone and that date will have an everlasting impact on those people.”

He added: “Throughout the last five months the Metropolitan Police have sought to assist the coroner with providing as much information as possible to enable answers to be given to the many questions people have had. “We sincerely hope that by doing that we can at least give some element of closure to some of the people affected by what happened on that day.

“We have had the report this morning with recommendations. We will take that report away, we will read it and we will respond quickly and appropriately.”
