Teacher struck off after sex with male pupil

A newly-qualified teacher who had sex with a male pupil at her home has been struck off by the General Teaching Council (GTC) after being found guilty of misconduct.

Erin La Porte, who taught religious education at Princes Risborough School in Buckinghamshire, was dismissed in 2007 after disclosing details of the relationship to a colleague while on holiday.

In a five-page judgment, a GTC disciplinary panel found Ms La Porte’s conduct was “fundamentally incompatible” with her continuing to be a registered teacher.

Ms La Porte chose not to attend a disciplinary hearing held in Birmingham where the panel concluded she posed “a significant risk of repeating the behaviour” because of her “lack of insight” into her behaviour.

The panel ruled that Ms La Porte cannot apply to be a teacher again for at least four years.
