Television appeal over alleged elderly abuse

Police in Bradford made a nationwide television appeal last night to trace a woman wanted in connection with the abuse of a 99-year-old care home patient.

Officers from the inquiry team released a photo of Hannah Parveen on BBC TV’s Crimewatch.

The former care home assistant, who worked in Bradford, was arrested in April 2009 by detectives in connection with the incident but never answered her bail.

Detective Constable Dean Smith, of Bradford South CID, said last night: “A significant amount of work has already gone into locating her, however, our inquiries have so far been unsuccessful. We hope this Crimewatch appeal will generate information as to her whereabouts and we can continue in pursuing this investigation to its conclusion.

“It is believed she may have connections to Bradford and could be married using a different surname.

“Someone may know her through a different name, but we hope the release of this image will encourage people to come forward with details of where she is.

“We are not ruling out the possibility that Parveen left the country following her arrest, although it is equally likely she is living in the UK.”

DC Smith urged anyone with any information to get in touch, contacting the force on 0845 6060606.

The programme also featured an appeal from South Yorkshire Police for the owners of a haul of stolen jewellery found almost a year ago to come forward.

South Yorkshire Police discovered the gems along with a large quantity of cash in last August and said the 70 items of jewellery were estimated to be worth £1m

A spokesman said ahead of programme: “Due to the unique nature of some of the pieces, they would be easily identifiable”.

Anyone who believes they own the jewellery or who has information about how they came to be stolen should contact South Yorkshire Police on 0114 220 2020.
