Video: Rise of the Leeds robots

Robots will be battling it out at the Royal Armouries in a weekend of mechanised mayhem.

Competitors were put through their paces yesterday ahead of the museum’s first ever Robots Weekend.

The spectacular event will include the Robots Live! show, which will see creations like Behemoth, Big Nipper, Terror Hurtz and Storm II locking horns in a spin-off from the hit TV show Robot Wars.

Star Wars actor Kenny Baker, who played lovable droid R2D2, is set to make a personal appearance on Saturday (July 21) and visitors will get the chance to have their pictures taken with members of the 501st Legion of Stormtroopers.

Museum director Peter Armstrong said: “This promises to be a really exciting weekend, and a huge hit with both robot fans and families looking for a unique day out.”

Charges apply for the Robots Live show.
