Women cook up creativity in kitchen

WOMEN are far more adventurous in the kitchen than their own mothers ever were, new research has revealed.

A study found today’s mothers were raised on a diet of British classics like shepherd’s pie, roast lamb and toad in the hole. But now they are parents themselves they think nothing of rustling up dishes like moussaka, curry and noodle-based meals which were deemed luxuries or too exotic in their youth.

Other dinners which mothers now produce with ease include stroganoff, enchiladas or lamb tagine – which they had never even heard of when they were children.

Just four per cent who took part in the study shunned foreign cuisine for their family’s diet – while three-quarters said even their youngest child was happy to eat a curry. The study was commissioned by Simply Beef and Lamb and found just one in six mothers could recall eating a stir fry when young.
