The chief executive of UKTI stepped down yesterday to take up a new post at energy firm Centrica. Nick Baird will become group corporate affairs director, starting in March.

Crispin Simon, currently managing director for trade at UKTI, will take over as acting chief executive until a permanent successor is announced.

Lord Livingston, who became Trade and Investment Minister this month, said: “I am most grateful to Nick for the excellent work he has done to strengthen UKTI in its crucial role of supporting British exporters and attracting foreign investment to the UK, and for helping me to prepare for my new role.

“I wish him well for the future. I look forward to working with Crispin, who has been with UKTI for two years and has a wealth of private sector experience, in continuing the drive for international growth.”

Lord Livingston was chief executive of BT from 2008 until earlier this year.
