Unicyclist launches single-minded mission to raise money for charity

You have got to be nuts to pedal 16 miles on a unicycle.

But 11-year-old Ben Settle is taking up the gruelling challenge to raise 1,000 for sufferers of peanut allergies, a condition he was diagnosed with at seven months old.

Ben, of Cawood, near Selby, is pedalling from Selby Abbey to York Minster next month to raise the money after coming up with the idea himself. He said: "I think it will be pretty tough, I've never gone that far before but I will just keep pedalling.

"I first started unicycling when I was about five because I saw one on the television.

"I found it really difficult when I first started and used to fall off a lot. But now I am pretty good. I can do jumps and some tricks and pedal it to school every day.

Ben a pupil at Cawood Primary School wants to be an architect one day but would definitely perform in a show or circus I if given the chance.

Ben's father Dan will be cycling alongside him. His sister Kate, nine, is also a keen unicyclist, but is not coming on the ride.

Ben has so far raised 670 for the Anaphylaxis Campaign for people at risk from severe allergic reactions, but hopes to raise around 1,000. To sponsor him visit www.justgiving.com/ Bensettle
