Union fury as security guards eject scratch card workers

UNIONS have condemned the treatment of 26 workers at a Hull company which is poised to go into administration.

Staff employed in the telecoms scratch card division at BemroseBooth on Sutton Fields in the city were told they wouldn't be receiving their wages.

The Unite union said its members had been treated "disgracefully" after they were escorted from the site by security guards after being informed of the closures and told that June's wages would not be paid.

It follows 160 redundancies at the company's headquarters and factory in Derby, which have closed.

Earlier this year the company lost a 20m contract to supply the UK's train tickets.

BemroseBooth had been producing the tickets for the Association of Train Operating Companies for 15 years.

However the ticketing contract has now been awarded to European firm Paragon, which employs 1,100 people across 14 locations in Europe, including Sunderland and Castleford.
