Union plans cuts protest

Members of public sector union Unison are set to stage a demonstration against Government cuts at troubled Doncaster Council on Budget day next week.

The Doncaster branch of Unison said it would hold the event in support of a national call to stop savings which are expected to be announced by the new coalition Government.

Union leaders in the town said the Treasury had already demanded that the authority slash 4.6m from its budget for this financial year. Officials said their members aimed to stop that move and halt any further cuts.
