University honoured

A LEADING Yorkshire University has been named as the country's top institution at an education awards ceremony.

York University was named as the best in the country at the 2010 Times Higher Education Awards for combining academic excellence with social inclusion and its record in science research.

Vice chancellor Prof Brian Cantor said: "It is a tribute to the hard work, dedication and ability of staff, students, alumni, friends, colleagues and partners, here in York and throughout the world."

The other Yorkshire winners on the night were Bradford University for Outstanding Contribution to Sustainable Development and Leeds University for Outstanding Contribution to Innovation and Technology.
