University student found dead at halls of residence in city

Police said yesterday they were not treating the death of Andrew Fielding, 27, a mature student at the University of York St John, as suspicious.

Mr Fielding was found dead at The Grange halls in Ramsay Close, at 11.50am Tuesday.

A spokesman for the university said: “We are extremely saddened by the tragic death of Andrew Fielding earlier this week.

“Andrew was a lively, well-liked student who relished the opportunity to study history as a mature student.

“We would like to offer our heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends at this difficult time.”

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “Police attended the sudden death of a 27-year-old man at a residential address
in Ramsay Close, York, on Tuesday 14 May 2013. Officers believe that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.”

The spokesman added: “A report will be prepared on behalf of the coroner.”
