UPDATE: M62 is reopened after closure but police warn of major tailbacks

The M62 has reopened after an earlier incident but police have warned drivers the huge tailbacks mean drivers should expect “significant delays” this afternoon.

Officers closed the M62 between junctions 21 and 24 in both directions following an incident earlier today.

Reports from motorists on social media suggests there are long tailbacks in both directions of the motorway between junction 21 and junction 24 at Halifax with reports of queues stretching as far back as Leeds in one direction and across the Pennines the other.

This lunchtime the route reopened but the closure has caused chaos for drivers across West Yorkshire on the motorway and surrounding routes. West Yorkshire Police have warned that drivers are likely to face long delays this afternoon.

West Yorkshire Police tweeted that the M62 has now reopened following the earlier incident.

“Expect significant delays on M62 and surrounding routes this afternoon.

“Consider alternate routes and allow more time for you journey.”
