A MAN died following a collision with a taxi on Micklegate in York.

Police were called just after 2.30am on Saturday to reports of an incident involving a Ford Mondeo taxi cab and a pedestrian.

Ambulance crews were also called and treated the man at the scene. He was taken by ambulance to York District Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

He was named as Robert Stephenson, 21, of Pickering, North Yorkshire. His family said they were ‘devastated at our loss and still trying to come to terms with it as a family’.

Enquiries into the incident are continuing and the man’s family is being supported by specially-trained officers.

North Yorkshire Police is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or saw anything significant in the moments before it happened to get in touch on 101 and quote incident number 12160052322.
