Updated: Dead man named as Doncaster murder investigation continues

A Doncaster man whose death triggered a murder investigation was today named as Christopher Cumpsty.

Mr Cumpsty’s body was discovered at about 4.30am on Friday at his home in Cross Street, Balby.

The 43-year-old died from multiple injuries, South Yorkshire Police have confirmed.

A 41-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of murder over the weekend has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Leading the investigation, Det Chief Insp Victoria Short said: “We have now formally identified Christopher Cumpsty and would like to issue a fresh appeal for information or any witnesses.

“The post mortem revealed he died from multiple injuries and we need your help to identify those responsible for this crime.

“As part of our inquiries, we are keen to trace Christopher’s last known movements in the week or so leading up to his death.

“Do you know Christopher? Have you seen him during the month of March?

“Any piece of information, no matter how small, could prove vital to our investigation so I’d urge you to get in touch.”

Witnesses or other people with information are asked to call South Yorkshire Police using the force’s 101 number, quoting log reference 128 of March 11.
