Updated: ‘Extensive damage’ in Bradford nightclub fire

At its height, eight fire engines and an aerial ladder platform was used to battle the blaze at the Old Warehouse nightclub on Sackville Street, which started shortly after 2am.

Firefighters are still at the scene damping down this morning and carrying out salvage work, while Fire Investigation Officers try to establish the cause of the fire.

The blaze was already established fire on the second floor and in the roof void of the three storey building when firefighters arrive. The roof has been severely damaged by fire and areas of the ground floor, occupied by a number of bars, whilst not fire damaged, have been water damaged, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

Station Manager Dave Cookson, who was Incident Commander, said: “The whole of the roof was involved in the fire, which was well developed when crews arrived. The roof has been extensively damaged but fire crews have managed to stop the spread of the fire to adjacent properties and no-one has been injured as a result of the fire.”

The nightclub was completely closed to the public at the time and no people were inside.

Firefighters said parts of the building have recently been under renovation.

Sackville Street remained closed during the morning rush hour.
