UPDATED: Man surrenders to armed police in Huddersfield

Armed police negotiated the surrender of a 24-year-old man after an incident at a house in Huddersfield this afternoon.

Police were called to a house in the Moldgreen area just after 2.30pm after receiving reports that a man had smashed up a car on Rosedale Avenue and was making threats and being aggresive inside a house on the street.

Further reports suggested that the man may have armed himself with a weapon, thought to be a knife.

Roads in the aea were closed and West Yorkshire Police deployed armed officers to the scene, who negotiated the man’s surrender.

A 26-year-old woman who was in the house was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Chif Insp Ian Gayles of Kirklees District Police, said “At 6.15pm the 24-year-old man left the property after officers negotiated his surrender.

“The man was arrested by police on suspicion of assault, criminal damage and breach of bail. He remains in custody this evening.

“The safety of the public is our top priority and it was necessary to close some roads in the area while the incident was ongoing.

“I would like to thank local residents for their patience and support while we worked to bring this situation to a resolution.”
