Updated: Police arrest suspect after murder in Wakefield

POLICE have arrested a 43 year-old on suspicion of murder after a man was found dead in Wakefield early this morning.

West Yorkshire Police earlier took the unusual step of issuing a picture of a man they wanted to question in connection with the death of 52-year-old Shabir Choudary, who was discovered with facial injuries at his flat in Gill Syke Grove, Thornes, Wakefield, at 3.25 this morning.

He was taken to Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield, where he was pronounced dead.

The scene has been cordoned off while officers carry out a forensic examination and conduct house to house enquiries.

This afternoon, police said they had arrested a man in connection with Choudary's death.

The man they wanted to question was described as Asian, around 6ft 4in tall, with greying hair and a beard, of very stocky build and with a noticeable belly and large hands.

Police are trying to trace a red Mercedes C180 with the registration plate - S273 MVY – which belonged to Mr Choudary.
