Upstairs downstairs

THE Duchess of Cornwall took a tour of refurbished cells in the basement of Wiltshire’s Marlborough Town Hall and unveiled a 10ft-long mosaic created to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

After a tour of the cells, the Duchess appeared through the trapdoor from which generations of defendants entered to be tried in the courtroom.

The Duchess was delighted that her daughter, Laura Lopes, who lives locally, joined her at the town hall along with the Duchess’s twin grandsons, Gus and Louis, who are almost three years old.

The mosaic of the building was unveiled on the steps of the town hall to the applause of around 200 people who gathered for her visit. A trumpet fanfare by two school pupils accompanied the unveiling.
