US maintains attack alert for travellers
TOP US officials have defended the country's warning that American citizens living or travelling in Europe should take extra care as the region is at grave risk from a terrorist attack.
US State Department counter-terrorism co-ordinator Daniel Benjamin said the terror plot remained active and a travel alert would stay in force.
Earlier this month the department issued advice to American citizens following reports that terrorists may be plotting attacks. Concerns have centred around a plot using assault weapons on public places similar to the 2008 Mumbai massacre.
