Volunteers seeking to breathe new life into their local community centre have issued a “use it or lose it” rallying cry to residents to help transform Swinnow Community Centre into a hub of activity for residents in west Leeds.
The dedicated team of volunteers want to ensure that their community centre remains firmly at the heart of Swinnow and are appealing for help.
The Healthy Living Network managed to bring residents from Swinnow together to help them form a committee for the centre. A team of nine volunteers is now looking for help about how to transform the community centre.
They recently cleaned up the community centre and are now looking for volunteers to help them add a splash of colour to the building and paint it.
Brian Falkingham, who is also the secretary of Rycroft Residents’ Association, said it was now up to the community to use or lose the centre.
He said: “We’ve lost the library and we don’t want to lose the centre. If you don’t use it then it will get pulled down. It’s very important to get it used.”
Zoe Smith, who is a volunteer with the project, said the reaction has been positive.”
