Vandals hunted for graffiti offences

VANDALS are being hunted by police after a spate of offences in Harrogate which saw one victim clean off graffiti only to be targeted again minutes later.

Two distinctive graffiti “tags” appeared in numerous locations in King Edward’s Drive, Albany Road, Cavendish Street and Albert Road in the Woodfield area of the town between 9pm on Saturday and 9am on Monday.

Some of the tags were made in maker pen and others in purple, black or white spray paint. Walls, garages, doors, fences, telephone exchange boxes and a trailer parked at the roadside were damaged. In one incident, a resident cleaned the tag off her door only for the vandals to replace it a few minutes later.

PC Dan Walker, who is leading the inquiry, said: “As the beat manager for the Woodfield area I know that this type of incident is uncommon. This type of criminal damage is wholly unacceptable and not something which we will tolerate. I will be visiting schools in the area to speak to pupils about how these pointless acts affect other people.”

Anyone with information can contact PC Walker on 0845 6060247.
