Varied arts celebrated in scheme to show off work across rural region

COUNCIL bosses say a new arts festival which has been four years in the making will show there is more to Ryedale than attractive countryside.

Artists will welcome visitors to their workplaces under a new initiative by the Ryedale Visual Arts Forum to celebrate the region's arts scene in venues as diverse as museums, studios, bookshops, and blacksmith's forges.

Ryedale Council's cultural officer, Yvette Turnbull, said the event was the culmination of four years of networking to bring diverse individuals together.

This was the first time they had all joined forces for such an event which underlined the strength of local arts scene.

She hoped arts lovers would turn out in force because many of the venues were also in very scenic locations, on farms, in attractive villages, and in Dalby Forest, near Pickering.

Visitors will also be encouraged to follow an 'Arts Trail' which would ensure they got around as many artists, galleries and studios as possible before the curtain comes down on October 15.
