'Velcade three' donate funds to other charities

Campaigners from Yorkshire who led a successful bid to persuade NHS chiefs to provide a cancer drug have made a major donation to charity.

A total of 18,000 was handed over yesterday by Jacky Pickles, Janice Wrigglesworth and Marie Morton – "the Velcade Three" – to the charity Myeloma UK at St James's Hospital in Leeds.

All three, from the Keighley area, have myeloma and fought for the drug Velcade. As part of their efforts, they raised 25,000 which will also go to the haematology and oncology day unit at Airedale General Hospital, near Keighley, and 2,000 to their local Sue Ryder Care hospice Manorlands.
