Vespers at city cathedral

Bradford Cathedral is to hold what is thought to be the first Roman Catholic service in the building for over 450 years.

The service has been arranged to strengthen ecumenical understanding in in the city.

Not since the Reformation has the Catholic service of Vespers been sung in the cathedral.

From the Latin vesper, meaning evening, this is the service from which evensong comes and many parts of the service are similar.

The service, which starts at 5.30pm next Tuesday, will be led by Father John Newman from St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church and sung by the Bradford Roman Catholic Boys' Choir who will be joined by the boys of the cathedral choir.
