Vicious abuser who terrorised his girlfriends caged

ONE of Britain's most dangerous domestic violence offenders has been jailed indefinitely after waging a five-year campaign of terror.

Former boxer Jason Savage, 26, put two girlfriends in hospital with brutal assaults and raped and battered three women he met in nightclubs between 2004 and 2009.

Savage, from Hull, poured boiling water over one of his girlfriends when she was six months pregnant with his child, leaving her scarred for life. Two weeks before she gave birth he attacked her again, stamping on her face when she said she was leaving him.

Both girlfriends, who cannot be named for legal reasons, suffered black eyes, fractured cheek bones, serious head injuries and broken teeth in attacks suffered during their relationship with him. The heavily tattooed abuser told all his victims he would kill their families if they told anyone about the attacks.

In January a jury at Hull Crown Court unanimously found him guilty of three counts of rape, three counts of causing grievous bodily harm, two counts of assault and one indecent assault.

At the same court yesterday, Savage had to be sentenced in a secure dock after threatening to kill victims and members of public sitting in court.

Sentencing him to an indeterminate prison sentence, of which he must serve at least nine years before he is considered for parole, Judge Roger Thorn QC told Savage he defied anyone "not to be deeply disturbed by what you have been up to".

The court heard that Savage told his girlfriends they needed to lose weight and forced them to run around the block – sometimes in just their underwear – as he chased them in his car.

He also timed them running up stairs and attacked them if they were not quick enough.

Throughout his two-week trial, Savage claimed he had been the victim of violence.
