Victim of house blaze fights for life in hospital

A man was critically injured in a house fire in Beverley.

Firefighters had to break into the mid-terraced property on Sigston Road early yesterday to rescue the 53-year-old who was semi-conscious and suffering from smoke inhalation.

He was admitted to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Police said he was in a critical condition yesterday but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. No-one else was injured as a result of the fire.

A Humberside Police spokeswoman said a 53-year-old Beverley man had been arrested in connection with the fire and police enquires were continuing.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service has sent in a fire investigator.
