Victim praised for rape trial evidence

A JUDGE has praised the courage of a rape victim who gave evidence during two trials against one of her attackers.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was left traumatised by the years of abuse she suffered at the hands of Paul Evans and his brother Lee Morris.

Evans, now 27, of Falmouth Avenue, Wapping, Bradford, was yesterday jailed for seven years after a jury at his second trial found him guilty of five sample rape offences and two charges of indecent assault.

A previous jury failed to reach verdicts.

Morris, 25, was said to have been encouraged to commit offences against the then young girl by his older brother.

He was jailed for three years after pleading guilty to three sample rape charges.

Bradford Crown Court heard the girl's ordeal began when Evans started indecently touching her when she was only six and began raping her when she was eight.

Prosecutor Nicholas Askins told the court when Morris saw his brother abusing and raping the girl Evans told him they were allowed to do it.

The brothers' offending came to light in 2008 and they were arrested.

Judge Peter Benson imposed indefinite sexual offences prevention orders on both men, restricting their contact with children under 16. They must also register as sex offenders with the police for the rest of their lives.

He told Morris he accepted he had begun to behave in an atrocious way towards the girl through the encouragement of his older brother who had developed an entrenched pattern of behaviour towards the victim.
