Victorian life makes return to town

VISITORS to the Treasure House in Beverley on Friday can see what life in the town was like more than 100 years ago when a Victorian-themed event is held.

East Riding Council’s museum service, in collaboration with the archives service and Beverley Library, is holding an event for families entitled “Beverley 1900”.

There will be music, displays and activities for children, while members of Spin-off Productions will be on parade in Victorian costume.

Victorian artefacts and photographs will be on show and visitors will also have the chance to have a photography studio portrait set against the backdrop of A Panic, the world’s largest cattle picture, which will be printed in sepia for authenticity.

Dr David Marchant, museums registrar at the council, said: “We have an exciting mixture of events aimed at all ages, which should give visitors a flavour of what life was like in Beverley in late Victorian times.

“It is also a good opportunity for the three professional teams that make up the Treasure House – museums, libraries and archives – to work together on a joint project, sharing their diverse skills and resources.”
