Video: Artist and sprinter both get under starter’s orders for the London Games

YORKSHIRE’S Olympic sprinter Emily Freeman has taken time out from training to visit an art gallery with its own connection to the Games.

Huddersfield-born Emily has been training in Sheffield but yesterday called at The Hepworth gallery, Wakefield to see artist Clare Woods’ exhibition The Unquiet Head.

Emily said: “I am a big fan of Clare’s work ... particularly because of my fondness of Brimham Rocks and memories of running and hiding amongst the rocks as a child.

Emily is a member of the British Olympic Association athlete committee and has already seen Clare Woods’ Olympic Park Commission in progress. It is due to be unveiled next month.

More than 80,000 painted ceramic tiles are integrated into the facade of a building on the Olympic Park, drawing inspiration from the site’s industrial heritage.

As the Games countdown continues, key personnel from Scotland Yard and the Royal Marines took part in a security rehearsal on the River Thames yesterday.

The day after the closing ceremony – August 13 – is predicted to be the busiest in Heathrow Airport’s history, when about 138,000 passengers, compared to a normal day’s 95,000, will pass through its gates.
