Video: The Chuckle Brothers launch hunt is on to find Yorkshire’s courageous children

This year marks the fifth Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards, which takes place at New Dock Hall, Leeds in October.

From a poorly little boy who inspired hundreds of people around the world, to a teenager who became a spokesperson for autism, the awards recognise the young people in the region who have shown courage in dealing with difficult circumstances, while raising money to help disadvantaged youngsters.

Many of last year’s winners were at the Headingley Experience in Leeds last night to launch this year’s search, as well as children’s entertainers and award ambassadors The Chuckle Brothers, Britain’s Got Talent stars Hypnodog and Krystyna Lennon, and supporters comedian Billy Pearce, Leeds Rhinos’ Gary Hetherington and Jamie-Jones Buchanan.

Stephen Mitchell, Leeds representative of the St James Place Foundation, and founder the awards, said: “I speak from my heart in saying how overwhelmed we are with all the support we’ve received from all the guests that came along to help us officially launch Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards 2015 and open the nominations for individual and group awards. In 2014 our fundraising reached £100,000 and we look set to exceed that amount at the Dinner on October 16.”

The Yorkshire Post is the media partner of the awards, and managing editor Nicola Furbisher said: “We are delighted to be involved once again and urge our readers to support it by nominating worthy children for an award.”
