But the luxurious touches of one hotel in Thornhill, Dewsbury, are aimed at feline guests.
The Ings Luxury Cat Hotel has everything from TVs playing virtual fish tanks and bird scenes to outdoor balconies and an “a la carte” menu for discerning pets.
After two years of planning, self-confessed cat lover Jo Ounsley, 43, has built the pet pampering palace in the grounds of her family’s small holding and is purring at the prospect of entertaining guests.
Jo, a former retail manager now trained in cattery management, said: “It’s the perfect place for a cat to come, although some people might think it’s a little bit extravagant. We just want them to be constantly entertained and stimulated and that really leads to a happy cat.”
Extras can include massages and even bedtime stories read in front of virtual log fires. Jo, who will run the 12-suite cattery with help from her 12-year-old daughter, has spent months visiting catteries, vets and experts in preparation. Its 100 sq ft Woodland Wing costs £40 per night with other rooms usually £15 per night.
