Matthew is taking part in the 13.1-mile race in the North East in aid of the Leeds Rugby Foundation, the official charity of Rhinos and Carnegie.

The actor, from Horsforth, Leeds, said: “I started training back in April, but started to step it up in the last two to three months. It was tough to start with, having never done any long distance running at all.”

Matthew played the role of schoolboy wizard Harry Potter’s pal Neville Longbottom in eight films.

He is competing in the Great North Run alongside former Rhinos favourite Barrie McDermott.
