Video: How many elves can you fit into a theme park?

More than 1,110 flocked to Stockeld Park, in Wetherby at the weekend to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of Santa’s helpers.

People of all ages donned green shirts and festive hats to help raise hundreds of pounds to support Leeds-based Martin House Children’s Hospice.

Amy Thornton, general manager of Stockeld Park, said: “It was brilliant. It completely surpassed all of our expectations and it was just fantastic.

“It was hard work and I was dreaming of elves leading up to it.

“People really braved the weather and showed their true Yorkshire spirit.

“We are all so proud of everyone that took part.”

The gathering was originally planned to help boost entries for the Santa Dash in the park’s Enchanted Forest on Sunday, December 1.

The previous record was 762 elves gathered in one place.

Money raised will help to support the hospice, in Boston Spa, which needs to raise nearly £5m every year to offer support to over 350 children and 150 bereaved families across the Yorkshire region.
