Video: I’ll be fighting off the women now, says Barnsley bachelor who didn’t know he was a millionaire

A BACHELOR from Barnsley who forgot to check his lottery ticket for a fortnight was today celebrating a £1.1 million win.

Shaun Vincent, 42, did not realise he had won the jackpot for more than two weeks after the draw because he didn’t check his Lucky Dip ticket.

He only spotted it after lottery chiefs launched a national campaign to find the mystery ticket holder.

At a press conference, Mr Vincent, from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, was asked whether he will now be “fighting off the women”.

He laughed as he replied: “Hopefully.”

Asked if he thought being a millionaire would make him “slightly more attractive”, the line supervisor at a meat slicing plant said: “I presume so. It can’t hurt, can it?”

Mr Vincent said he only realised he was a winner when he spotted a story about the “lost” ticket on a community website.

“I just looked at the screen and then looked at my ticket and then back at the screen.

“I must have done that for about 20 minutes.

“I couldn’t believe it.”

He said he told his mother, who told him to “stop mucking about”.

He added: “Well, that’s the nice way of putting it.”

Now the lifelong Liverpool fan is planning to buy a season ticket for Anfield as well as pay off his sister’s and mother’s mortgages.

He also wants to take driving lessons before deciding whether to splash out on a car.

But Mr Vincent is not rushing into a decision about giving up work.

He said he has taken a fortnight off to think about his future.

“It’s all a bit overwhelming,” he told the news conference, which was held in Wakefield.

Mr Vincent won £1,158,038 in the Lotto draw on Saturday June 11.

The winning numbers were 9, 11, 35, 37, 40 and 45.

He bought the ticket at Sainsbury’s in Royston, Barnsley.
