Video: Let us be the first to wish you a Happy Yorkshire Day!

HAVE you been wishing people “Happy Yorkshire Day”? August 1st has been recognised as a day to celebrate “God’s Own County” since 1975 when The Yorkshire Ridings Society was formed to object to changes being made in local government and the areas they administered.

The date was chosen as it falls on the day of the Battle of Minden which saw a Yorkshire regiment take part.

But even though it’s been with us for nearly 40 years many people still aren’t aware of Yorkshire Day. However in York the new council leader says he wants to change all that.
