Video: Model wedding as vicar weds shop dummies

IT MAY just be the oddest wedding seen in Yorkshire this year.

The service with a difference saw a couple dressed as shop window mannequins “married” by the Rev Philip Smith, of St James’s Church, Boroughbridge, who officiated at a short ceremony watched by a host of onlookers outside the town’s Crown Hotel.

Love blossomed when wedding gown boutique Curvy Bridal and gents’ outfitters Joshua Adams found themselves neighbours in Horsefair in the town at the beginning of the year.

The two businesses are now conjoined as one.

Representatives from other companies from the region’s wedding industry also attended the ceremony, along with the Mayor of Boroughbridge, Coun Liz Vose, and others who braved the chilly weather.

The “newlyweds” were
given the use of a Bentley by wedding venue Goldsborough Hall for a short journey back
to the Joshua Adams store,
where they took part in a traditional cake-cutting ceremony as guests enjoyed light refreshments.

However the “happy couple” – or at least their dummy
alter egos – were soon back on normal duties in their shop windows.

Louise Leong, proprietor of both firms, said: “Maybe the event has helped lay the foundations for more business relationships in the future.”
