CHRISTMAS festivities were kicked off with a bang in Leeds last night as Olympic gold medallist Nicola Adams switched on the city centre lights.

Thousands of people watched a host of entertainment in Victoria Gardens on the Headrow before the boxing star switched on the Christmas illuminations – one of the largest displays in the country – triggering a spectacular fireworks show. The 12th annual Christkindelmarkt opens today in Millennium Square in the city.
